Leather, however, requires a lot of TLC to maintain that high-quality aesthetic. Negligence can lead to your leather watch straps looking tattered and stained. Here are some amazing tips on how to care, preserve and clean leather smart watch straps, to keep your smart watch looking luxurious.

How to Clean a Leather Smart Watch Strap

Important: do NOT wet the leather strap completely.

1. Remove the straps from your smart watch device

To begin the cleaning process, the straps must be detached from the watch face to prevent causing any potential damage to your wrist tech.

2. Wipe down the strap with a dry cloth

This is done to remove any loose buildup and debris that could be pressed into the strap when rubbing off the stains in (Step 3).

3. Use a damp cloth and soap to rub off stains

Dampen the cloth used in (Step 2), and add a little soap to the cloth. Gently rub the prominent stains on the strap, avoiding pressure - aim for a light circular motion. It is important that you do not use a scrub as this can lead to damage of the strap skin.

4. Remove soap with a damp cloth

Use a damp cloth to wipe off the excess soap from the strap. Leave the strap to dry. Note: the strap must not be soaking wet.

5. Spray with leather conditioner

Once the strap has dried, apply a thin coat of leather conditioner by lightly spraying the watch strap. The conditioner will leave the strap with that genuine leather finish.

Do I REALLY need to use Leather Conditioner?

Leather conditioner is the best way to remove any unwanted odors from your watch strap. It is also the most reliable method of maintaining that fresh, clean, high-quality aesthetic of your leather strap.

Fact or Folklore: Olive Oil as Leather Conditioner?

Olive Oil has been discussed tirelessly as a substitute for leather conditioner. It has been an old wives’ tale passed on as frequently as “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. When it comes down to fact or folklore, olive oil as leather conditioner is unfortunately the latter.

Good quality, trustworthy leather conditioner is still your best bet on that perfect long-lasting result you wish to achieve for your leather watch strap. However, if you find your hand sneaking into the pantry for some olive oil when cleaning your leather band just bare in mind that “leather is extremely permeable, and will soak up any oils you put on it”

Leather restoration experts say that:

"Whenever you use olive oil to treat a leather problem, you will always be trading instant gratification with the long-term health of your leather."
